God Comforts

Several months ago I asked you to pray for an 8 year old boy named Grant. He is dying of an unknown muscle disease and their struggles get worse each passing day. Here is an excerpt from an email his mother sent to all who are praying for them. Please pray for this Christian family as they walk through the valley of the shadow of death.

Grant was in excruciating pain and we had trouble getting him comfortable. He was crying and upset. Something must have felt different for him because he told us he thought he was dying. He has never said that before. We cried with him and we prayed with him and over him. And finally he did rest. At one point while we were praying he held his hand up and said, 'Stop. God is talking to me.' He kept his eyes closed and nodded his head as if acknowledging the things that were being told to him. I don't pretend to understand how God reveals Himself to children, but I will say it is something to behold. Grant didn't question in the slightest that it was God who was talking to him. When he opened his eyes I asked him what God had told him. It took him a while to tell me, but it was basically this; 'He said He loved me and He was sending His angels to me and He was holding me in His mighty arm.'

In his worst hour, God calmed him. There are many things that occur in the course of a day that make me love the Lord even more, but I must say at that moment, I was overcome. He had done exactly what I'd asked and what many of you have asked as well. I had been asking God to reveal Himself to Grant and that He would see Him for who He is. And He did just that. There is joy amidst pain.

Psalm 23
"The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever."

My eyes are filled with tears, tears of joy.

Our God will never leave us or forsake us even to the end of our life here on earth.

I will be praying for this family.

What a precious, precious post. Tears are bubbling over at the tenderness of our great God - who touched a little boy at his hour of need.
I am listening to "I will rise" by Chris Tomlin (Hello Love CD) - to say it is incredibly fitting for Grant's situation would be an understatement!

Thanks for sharing this, Nancy. There really aren't words for how we feel when hearing a story like this. I can't imagine having to watch your child go through that kind of pain. But then the overwhelming comfort of having God come right to them and walk with them. How He loves us -- How I praise Him!

I feel very sad for poor little Grant and his family. How devastating to watch your little one endure excruciating pain.

Children are open, their little souls receptive to the realm of the spirit. I remember talking to God as a small child before I was taught who God is. I had a different name for him in my mind, and he was in the form of a person; not a man or a woman, just a person.

What a sensitive post. I am happy for Grant that God came to him in his hour of need.
I will pray for that dear little child.

Nancy,

This is such a beautiful post. I am soo blessed by what God was telling that little boy. I know that He loves us. It's just amazing when He conveys that to us personally.

Thank you for keeping us informed on little Grant and his sweet family.

I want them to know we all care and are blessed by their joy even in this terribly sad & difficult time.

How precious children are. They are so receptive to Jesus & love him so. That is an incredible story of how God spoke to him.
How just like God to comfort like that.

Thanks again for sharing.
Love,
Valerie

Wow. Grant is on my list. God holds the little children. It is almost too much to take in.
